HAF programme delivery

When local authorities outsource crucial child development projects that are funded by central government, finding trusted community partners who can deliver tangible outcomes is vital.

This is why the councils responsible for Redbridge, Kensington & Chelsea, Hammersmith & Fulham and Ealing engaged The Little Foxes Club, to deliver the HAF programme in their local communities.

Holiday Activities Food
Haf Programme The Littlefoxes Club

What is the HAF programme?

HAF is an abbreviation for Holiday Activities and Food. The HAF programme was developed in 2021, and at the start of 2022 Central Government assigned a further £200 million plus to its delivery across the next three years.

At the heart of the initiative is working to provide children who are entitled to free school meals with both activities and nutrition that will enrich them during school holidays. These projects must be free at the point of delivery and will ultimately be available in every local authority area in England.

The goals of the HAF programme focus on addressing both healthy eating and social isolation for children from low-income households. As well as providing opportunities for fitness and a better understanding of ways to stay healthy through physical activities.

Each day includes at least one meal as well as a range of sports sessions and activities. Activities will include arts & crafts, dance & performance, tennis, dodgeball, tag rugby, rounders, football, athletics, badminton, non-contact boxing, cricket, hockey, handball, ultimate frisbee and more.

Why The Little Foxes Club?

One of the stated aims of the HAF programme is to enable children to: “take part in engaging and enriching activities which support the development of resilience, character and wellbeing along with their wider educational attainment.”

So, it’s clear to see why the team at The Little Foxes Club were keen to lend their experience – and well-proven children’s sports programmes- to this excellent initiative!

Why Choose Little Foxes Club
Local Authorities Trust The Little Foxes Club

It reflects our strong belief that grassroots sports should be available to all children, of all abilities and fitness levels. Everything we do is about building new skills and interests but also growing the social interaction and FUN children get from sports activities and games.

We also believe in providing bespoke children’s sports programmes in communities. So, we have worked with each local authority to devise school holiday initiatives entirely geared towards each area’s aims and needs. Including multi-sports sessions designed to attract active involvement from even the most ‘reluctant’ or disenfranchised participant.

After all, making children feel comfortable, welcome and supported is central to all that we do.

Of course, keeping participants active and out in the fresh air also helps to build up their appetite, when the HAF programme works with participants on the nutritional aspects of the campaign too.

Why local authorities trust The Little Foxes Club

Measurable achievement of desired outcomes is essential for Government-funded initiatives like this. So is a tangible emphasis on safety. We were chosen by these local authorities because our goals are a perfect match, but also because our community sports delivery systems are first class.

The Little Foxes Club engages well-screened, highly trained sports coaches for HAF activities. Leaders in their field, with impeccable credentials.

All venues are risk assessed and expertly managed, to provide HAF participants with a safe environment, alongside the level of inclusivity that is crucial to the programme’s success.

Our data control and session management expertise are based on advanced skills and technology at our HQ.

What are the lasting outcomes?

It’s important to emphasise that this is NOT just free childcare in school holidays or a way to offset food poverty.

The emphasis is on providing children (under the age of 11) with skills and knowledge that will help shape their future. In our case, especially helping them to appreciate the long-term benefits of exercise and social interaction with their peers.

We may find future sporting heroes amongst children who might otherwise never attend extracurricular and grassroots sports activities. However, the aim is to make every child who takes part feel lifted, inspired and better able to self-manage their health – making EVERY child a hero of sorts!
